After reading the title for this post, I realize that this could appear to be a spam post, but here me out - this is about baseball...
I'm a little bit surprised that no one has said anything about the advantage that State Income Tax, or lack thereof, offers certain teams. There are 3 states in MLB that currently do not collect income tax: Washington, Texas and Florida (note: all collect federal income tax). The Mariners, Astros and Rays don't seem to be in on any of the big names this off season, but both the Texas Rangers and Miami Marlins are at least going to attempt to make a big splash. Just think about it for a second, if another team offers the same dollar amount, Texas and Florida still net the player more money. It's odd that nobody's mentioned this, when Lebron James and Chris Bosh made the move to South Beach last year, it was apparently a major factor. The Heat were able to offer less money and as a result have more room under the salary cap.
